BEATS & PEACES ft. Glen Nicholls aka Future Funk Squad – 007

In this episode of Beast & Peaces, Janette Slack catches up with studio producer, chronic remixer, composer, sound designer and the sole man behind Future Funk Squad, Glen Nicholls. He has upwards of 65 remixes to his name for artists such as The Prodigy, Massive Attack, New Order, UNKLE, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Hybrid, Device and Sia, and has released four high-quality albums to date ‘Audio Damage’ (2006), ‘Disorders of Skill’ (2009) ‘Darker Days’ (2014) and ‘Unified Forms’ (2021).

The latest album offering is more than a follow up to the award winning ‘Darker Days’ and has epic cinematic undertones with a few crowd pleasers thrown in. The project is the result of an trans-Atlantic lockdown collaboration with Scott Kirkland of The Crystal Method fame after the pair first worked together co-producing ‘The Trip Home’ album in 2017. Their track “Lockdown”, was in many DJ’s “essential bangers of 2020” towards the end of 2020.

Just one sign of the huge respect Glen garners in the global music industry is the story of when he made a personal unofficial remix of Spitfire by The Prodigy for his own DJ sets; instead of asking him to remove the remix the label asked him to make it official and after he did that he was introduced to the band’s leader Liam Howlett who later said the remix was one of his top three favourite The Prodigy remixes.

Glen has also got the nod from Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails to remix “Closer”, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for that.

Hear these and other remarkable stories as well as a Beats & Peaces worldwide exclusive new track called ‘Living to Die’ by The Crypto Thieves (Future Funk Squad, Omega Sparks & Stu Brutal).

He is currently working on a couple of big film scores on top of more remixes and collaborations with the heavy weights, we’ll have to get him back on the show to hear more.
